The Snug Bookshop Support Books

The Snug Bookshop holds a curated selection of books to strengthen families going through difficult times. See in shop under XXX

When we go through emotionally challenging times due to a particular matrix of health and / or changed circumstances, it can often feel overwhelming while we try to navigate the situation and our responses to it. Paradoxically, it can occur that when we most need support to cope we may feel unable to derive it from our usual networks, as we struggle to cope with our feelings and the exhaustion that can accompany it.

Support books that are well-researched and up to date, provide us with the precise information we need at those critical junctures and can be accessed when we are ready to be receptive to them. We in the Snug have invested in our logistics so we can access any book in the UK distribution network including from specialist publishers for you. We have a private corner of the shop to host these books where customers can come and look in peace and with privacy.

Rose is a former qualified and experienced social worker, guardian ad litem and latterly, a barrister-at law specialising in the human rights of her (child) clients as and against the State’s duty of care to them. She has worked in a multitude of very complex cases,  unaccompanied minors, families with mental health challenges, parents with addictions, alcoholism, involved in criminal gangs and drug use. Rose was most interested in advocating for protections for children experiencing, successive forced homelessness, child trafficking, prostitution, neglect, physical and sexual abuse and poor State provision in both residential and foster care.  Working in the community as a field agent, in hospitals, schools, residential care and detention centres Rose learnt what children, young people and parents contend with under stress.

This support section of the shop is important to Rose as through it she feels she  honours and remembers the many young clients who sought her out as their preferred advocate to help them when both parents and the State failed them.

Rose remains personally interested in ensuring that she enables those she meets to secure the specialist support they are entitled to by sign-posting them to community services and  by putting the right books in their hands.
